Surya Academy is named after the Hindu solar deity, Surya. The Academy has been formed for the primary purpose of an education in the ancient philosophies and their modern applications of Maha Bharata – India – and the surrounding regions.

The aims of the Surya Academy are:

I. To educate Canadians of all backgrounds, ethnicities, religions, etc. about the cultural heritage and legacy of the Ancient South Asian land and its people.

II. To instill in Canadians of South Asian descent (whether coming via the West Indies, South America, Africa, Europe or Asia), especially the youth, a knowledge of and pride in their ancestral heritage/legacy. This pride should enable them to live as part of the great Canadian cultural landscape while being able to live, speak about and transmit a part of their cultural identity.
